The W320 marked a step up for Sony's entry-level W-series, bumping resolution to 14.1 megapixels and — more usefully — widening the lens to a genuine 26mm equivalent, a meaningful improvement over the 10.1-megapixel W170 and 6-megapixel W50/W30 it effectively replaced in the lineup. The CCD colour is classic Sony: cool, clean, and reliably contrasty in daylight, with the Carl Zeiss branding giving slightly crisper detail than generic compact lenses of the same price point. Low light performance is modest, as expected of a small 1/2.3-inch sensor pushed to this resolution, with noise becoming intrusive past ISO 400. That 26mm wide end is the camera's real strength — interiors, group shots, and travel scenes all benefit from the extra field of view compared to Sony's earlier, tighter W-series lenses. Face Detection and Smile Shutter round out a feature set aimed squarely at effortless family and travel photography. Positioned as an affordable, user-friendly compact at launch, the W320 remains a solid, unglamorous entry point into Sony's CCD-era colour — reliable, wide enough to be genuinely useful, and honest about what it is.
