The W570 tops Sony's 2011 entry-level W-series quartet, and the upgrades over its W510 and W530 siblings are meaningful: a longer 5x zoom starting at a proper 25mm wide angle, 16.1-megapixel resolution, and genuine 720p HD video where the cheaper models were capped at VGA. The CCD sensor still shows its age past ISO 200, with noise becoming a real factor by ISO 800, but daylight files are clean and well saturated, with the Carl Zeiss lens delivering solid contrast and reasonably controlled distortion across the zoom range. This was one of the more capable pocket compacts available at this exact resolution and lens combination for its price. Optical SteadyShot makes the longer 125mm telephoto end genuinely usable rather than shake-prone, and Sweep Panorama continues as one of Sony's signature conveniences from this generation — a single swept motion producing a stitched wide image with no editing required.
