The W650 is effectively the W570's successor, carrying over the same well-regarded 16.1-megapixel CCD sensor and 25-125mm Carl Zeiss lens, but stepping the screen up from 2.7 to a full 3.0 inches — a meaningful upgrade for composing and reviewing shots. Image character is near-identical to the W570: clean, contrasty CCD colour in daylight, with the expected grain increase past ISO 200-400 typical of this sensor generation. The wide 25mm end continues to be the standout practical feature, handling interiors and group shots with real ease compared to narrower compacts. Optical SteadyShot and Sweep Panorama both carry forward unchanged, proven features rather than new additions, and 720p HD video rounds out a specification that, for 2012, represented Sony's budget compact line at its most refined before CMOS sensors took over the segment entirely. Lightweight at under 4 ounces and genuinely pocketable, the W650 is one of the last well-specified CCD compacts Sony released in this line. For anyone wanting late-CCD-era Sony colour with the largest screen and most complete feature set in the W-series budget lineup, this is the one to look for.
